Rooster Net

The net seems to have disbanded since Ken's death and the move of WD from the North Hessary Tor mast to Plymouth University, where it has less coverage, although the tradition of Rooster Breakfasts is continued monthly by Plymouth Radio Club.

When I was first licensed, I was a regular participant in the GB3WD Rooster Net each morning, before I went to school. Regular participants included net controller Ken G0VUG (now silent key), Dave G0PTK, Paddy G0TQR, John G4BXS, Jerry G1TAZ, Mike G4IML, Dave G4CYW, John G7HIK, Bob G7NHB and others. I was heard with my Class B callsign G7WJF.

At the risk of embarrassing myself (bear in mind that I had only been licensed 6 months at the time of this recording, and I was only 15 years old), a 13m45sec recording of the net in MP3 format can be downloaded below. The recording was made at about 07:30 local time on 8th October 1996, on the occasion of K4DSB's final Rooster Net after staying in Britain for a few months.
